Frequently asked questions

Fee structures vary between designers but common models include a flat fee for the entire project (often based on scope and estimated hours), an hourly rate, a percentage of the total project cost (including furnishings and construction), or sometimes a hybrid model. Designers should clearly outline their fee structure in their contract.

While the designer handles the day-to-day work and management, your input is crucial, especially during the initial concept and design phases. You'll be involved in defining the vision, providing feedback on designs, and making key decisions (like approving final selections and budget items). The goal is collaboration, but the service is designed to minimize the time and effort required from you compared to managing it yourself.

Full-service interior design is more comprehensive. While decoration focuses mainly on furnishings and aesthetics, full-service design often involves space planning, working with architects/contractors, managing budgets, and overseeing construction or renovation elements. E-design provides a design plan remotely, but leaves the purchasing, implementation, and project management entirely up to the client. Full-service is a hands-on, complete management of the project in person.
